The Dino Game, also known as Chrome Dino, T-Rex Runner, or simply the Dinosaur Game, is one of the most iconic hidden games on the internet. Originally created by Google in 2014, this endless runner game appears when users lose internet connection while using the Chrome browser. Over the years, what started as a small Easter egg has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, played by millions of people both online and offline.
History of the dino game
The Dino Game was first introduced in September 2014 as part of Google Chrome’s offline error page. Instead of frustrating users with a simple “No Internet” message, Google’s developers added a playful twist by embedding a game into the browser. Designed by Sebastien Gabriel and the Chrome UX team, the dinosaur was chosen as a symbol of the “prehistoric” times before Wi-Fi existed.
The idea was simple: if you lose connection, you can pass the time by helping a pixelated T-Rex run across the desert. At first, the game was only available offline, but due to its popularity, Google later made it accessible online at chrome://dino.
How to Play the Dino Game
The gameplay mechanics are simple and intuitive, making the Dino Game accessible to players of all ages.
To start the game, simply press the spacebar or the up arrow key when the dinosaur appears.
The T-Rex will begin running automatically through a desert landscape.
Players must jump over cacti and duck under flying pterodactyls using the arrow keys.
The game speeds up gradually, making it more challenging as you progress.
There is no end – the goal is to achieve the highest possible score before hitting an obstacle.
On mobile devices, players can tap the screen to make the dinosaur jump, making the experience just as enjoyable without a keyboard.
