You only get six chances to find a single five-letter word, and every 24 hours, a new task comes out. This lack of resources keeps you from getting bored and turns the game into a "light brain" activity that works well for mornings. Using colored tiles to show your progress—green for a perfect match, yellow for a lost letter, and gray for the wrong one—it gives you immediate, satisfying feedback that keeps people playing.
Besides the gameplay, the social aspect of the game is what makes it great. It naturally went popular because people could share those famous grids of colored squares without giving away the word. It works perfectly on mobile devices and doesn't need any downloads, so everyone can use it, from kids to adults. It doesn't matter if you start with a strategy-heavy word like ADIEU or just wing it; seeing that last row turn all green is a small win that makes everyone happy.
