2:59 AM 		Saw a thread a while back asking if it makes sense to combine Kerala backwaters with a Varanasi spiritual leg in one trip. We did exactly this in April, so figured I'd close the loop for anyone searching later.

The two couldn't feel more different, which is honestly why it worked. We started in Kerala with two nights on a houseboat drifting through the Alleppey backwaters — slow mornings, fresh fish cooked onboard, palm trees reflected in flat water. Total decompression.

Then we flew north for a few days around Varanasi and Prayagraj. Watching the evening aarti ceremony on the ghats and bathing at the Triveni Sangam at sunrise were the two moments that stuck with us most. It's intense in a completely different way from Kerala — lots of noise and movement — but that's kind of the point.

We had TTI Tours handle the routing and hotels, since juggling flights, houseboat bookings, and Varanasi logistics ourselves seemed like a headache. Their guide in Varanasi in particular gave a lot of context on the ghats that we wouldn't have picked up on our own.

If you've only got 10–12 days and are debating South vs. North India, this combination covers both without feeling rushed. Happy to share the exact route if it's useful to anyone.
