Gurubhai brings the latest cricket update from the opening day of the first Test between pakistan vs england at Headingley on August 19, 2026. England dominated the day after bowling Pakistan out for 171 before making a strong start with the bat.

Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue were the standout performers for England, with both fast bowlers claiming five-wicket hauls. Robinson finished with impressive figures of 5 for 51, while Tongue took 5 for 46. Their combined efforts dismantled Pakistan's batting lineup and ensured England gained a strong advantage before the close of play.

Pakistan's innings began under difficult conditions, with Robinson immediately finding movement from the surface. He removed Azan Awais with the first delivery of the innings before dismissing captain Shan Masood soon afterward. England's early pressure put Pakistan on the back foot.

Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq then provided Pakistan with their most important partnership of the day. The pair added 91 runs and temporarily steadied the innings. Both batters played positively once the conditions improved following a weather interruption.

However, England regained control when Imam was dismissed by Tongue after edging a delivery outside off stump. Robinson then removed Shafique, who had scored a valuable 61. Pakistan's middle and lower order struggled to build another substantial partnership.

Saud Shakeel also survived a dramatic review incident after Pakistan failed to review an lbw decision within the allotted time. Ball tracking later showed that the delivery would have missed the stumps, leaving Pakistan frustrated.

Tongue then produced a devastating spell during the closing stages of Pakistan's innings. He found movement back into the batters and removed the lower order in quick succession. Pakistan lost their final eight wickets for just 74 runs and were eventually dismissed for 171.

England's reply started positively. Ben Duckett and Emilio Gay initially scored at a brisk pace, but Pakistan eventually found breakthroughs. Duckett was dismissed by Mohammad Abbas, while Mohammad Ali removed Emilio Gay soon afterward.

Joe Root then came to the crease and helped settle the innings. Jordan Cox also looked comfortable in his new position at No. 3, and the pair formed an important partnership before stumps.

At the end of the first day, England had reached 112 for 2, with Joe Root unbeaten on 37 and Jordan Cox on 23. England therefore trail Pakistan by only 59 runs and still have eight wickets remaining.

The pakistan vs england opening day belonged firmly to England's bowlers. Robinson and Tongue's five-wicket hauls exposed Pakistan's batting weaknesses, while Root and Cox ensured England finished the day in a commanding position.

For Gurubhai, the first day of the pakistan vs england Test provided plenty of action, with England's pace attack setting the tone and Pakistan facing a difficult task after being restricted to a modest first-innings total.
